We could not be more pumped for next week. We’ll be setting up shop at the USA Rugby Sevens and although we just used the word ‘shop’, we will not be selling apparel. There is a conflict of interest with the merchandise USA Sevens sells through out the Tournament vs having ours on sale as well. Rest assured, we are more than an apparel company and look forward to meeting with as many ruggers, fans and enthusiasts the entire time we’re there. We will be set up Thursday the 9th through the finals on Sunday evening the 12th. Pay attention to our Facebook/Twitter for promos and inside info as the Tournament unfolds – and if you know how to play Lomu Rugby Challenge, come by – we’ll have it up on PS3 for your enjoyment. Hope to see you there!

Online piracy is harmful and it needs to be addressed, but not at the expense of censoring creativity, stifling innovation or preventing the creation of new, lawful digital distribution methods.

New year, new post. First off, how is everyone doing so far in 2012?

We’re happy to still be doing what we love and hope that Bakline finds you or you find Bakline at some point in 2012. Adventures in Advertising is a little collection of ads we’ve archived that feature rugby as a concept in marketing products from around the world. So without further adieu…. some curious sevens ads from JWT Dubai who in recent years as taken to rugby as an athletic showcase very much. There’s almost a sandblasted look to the art and reminds us faintly of the campaign Adidas did with body paint impressions on canvas. The copy is a little disjointed, but tries its best to paint a picture of the player’s moment of intensity in a match. Enjoy.

World Rugby Shop’s holiday catalog displays our SIN BIN tee prominently up top. As expected, this is one of our hottest tees selling at the moment. It was no surprise that it was also a popular item at the NY Sevens Rugby Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. The merchandise tent wasn’t much to look at, but it was filled with goodies and thankfully the weather could not have been better here in New York. Most importantly, the tournament shirt we designed for the New York Rugby Club was a hot sellout and it’s too bad we don’t have anymore leftover. But then again, that’s what makes these shirts vintage collectors.

It’s come and gone in a flash. People are still waking up with sore heads today maybe in a daze over their county’s mere one point victory over the valiant and incredible French who did not have the luck, superstition and magic to put another All Black misery to bed.

Wellington was a hot bed of glory and fury over joy, redemption and deserved satisfaction that so many kiwis have been waiting for. Some, in fact, young enough to have never known an All Black World Cup triumph – and history was kind to them. The magic was with the All Blacks at the final whistle and the energy that poured into the streets of Courtenay Place was over whelming. No doubt the bars were drunk dry by 6AM and our experience here has left us with life-changing memories. Congratulations to both France and New Zealand. Now it’s time to start saving for England 2015. The pound isn’t kind to the dollar!

Rugby World Cup Quarter Finals

If you’re a Bok fan, Sunday’s game was a nail biter. If you were an All Black fan, Argentina actually might have worried you for 40 minutes. The skies could not be better for a match in what the Kiwi’s call the “Cake Tin”. – Wellington’s stadium was full of green and gold and the atmosphere was ripe for a rugby match. The tightest of matches are about to get underway in a week when Wales take on France and the AB’s go after their Tasman rivals. It’s sure to be a cracker and we look forward to absorbing this amazing and incredible experience to be inside the world’s premier rugby event.

A country so woven with the beloved All Blacks you can’t tell which brand came first, New Zealand the country or the rugby team? Upon arrival in Wellington if you happen to be sitting on the left side of the plane – just pinned on a steep hill top is a carbon copy of the same Hollywood signage, the words ALL BLACKS. There was apparently fierce debate regarding the temporary signage as it may be replaced with the phrase “Wellywood” to further showcase the increasing presence Wellington has in the motion picture industry.

In any case, this weekend should be a cracker with the quarterfinals taking place and it’ll be an intense atmosphere as we experience a southern hemisphere city filled with southern hemisphere heavy weights, Australia and South Africa.
